• Each one of my creations is hand crafted and one-of-a-kind. Most of them are hand-built with the help of very basic tools, using the various techniques of pinching, coiling, and slab construction. Occasionally, though, I also use the wheel.

  • I use various types of clays, depending on the object I intend to make. As a general rule, I tend to use stoneware clays for tableware items and a combination of stoneware clays and earthenware clays for my musical instruments.

  • I use various kinds of techniques to decorate my objects. One of them is stamping: I stamp my cups with patterns that I personally design and carve onto linoleum sheets which I then use to stamp the clay. This makes the patterns stand out in relief and gives the cups a tactile quality. Other techniques I like to use, particularly when making aerophones, are sgraffito, water etching, and terra sigillata.

  • Aerophones, or wind instruments, are musical instruments in which sound is produced by the vibration of air. They include whistles, ocarinas, flutes, and whistling water vessels. Whistles lack finger holes, thus producing only one sound. Ocarinas are whistles with the addition of finger holes, which allow for the production of additional pitches. Flutes have a tubular shape. Whistling water vessels are Pre-Columbian in origin and involve the use of water to operate the whistling mechanism, producing a variety of sounds. My aerophones are musical instruments and ornamental pieces at once. The small whistles and ocarinas can be worn around the neck as pendants or hung on the walls as ornaments. The larger whistling water vessels are like functional sculptures which can very well work as centerpieces.

  • Currently, I sell my pottery at my studio in Athens (preferably by appointment) and at occasional craft markets that I announce on my Instagram page. In addition, you can find a selection of my aerophones in the shop of the Benaki Museum in Athens. My online shop is under construction and will soon be ready!
